midweekteaseHello, hello! It’s that time of the week again! Last week I gave you guys a taste of Jack and Dillon’s story. This week I thought I’d share with you a bit from the second book in the Southern Honor series, No Place Like Home. Meet Roc and Gabe. These two guys get off to a bit of a rocky start….

This weeks tease:

Roc wasn’t sure what made him turn around. But when he had looked in the rearview mirror and seen the slight man waving what he was sure was an indignant middle finger at him Roc couldn’t resist doing a one-eighty. Pulling his truck to a stop along the opposite side of the road, he watched the tense lines of that slight, yet strong looking back. The expensive looking get up the man was wearing sure wasn’t meant for kneeling in the mud.

Climbing from the cab of the truck Roc made sure to shut the door with a little more force than necessary. He chuckled softly when the other man started slightly but continued to ignore him. Cocky little bastard this one.

“Need any help there?”

“Perfectly fine, thanks.” The man turned his head slightly to reply but never raised his eyes from the tire in front of him.

“From the looks of it a few minutes ago I would say otherwise.” Roc crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the side of his truck. He was determined to wait this out and he wasn’t really sure why. It wasn’t like the guy was at all grateful he came back.

“Obviously you need glasses.”

“So you were just being neighborly when you were flagging me down like a mad man?”

In a flash the man rounded on Roc wielding a tire iron like he knew how to use the damn thing. The fire in the deep green eyes that met his had Roc thinking he would really try something.

“And was that you being neighborly when you drove you stupid ass beast of a truck right on by?”

“I turned around.”

“How manly of you.”

“Stop bein’ so stubborn.” Roc felt his lips try to tip up into the first smile in months. “Do you want help or would you rather keep kneeling in the mud until the sun sets and the critters come out?”

“What kind of critters?”

“Big ones. Lots of teeth.” Roc hid his laughter behind a cough as those green eyes darted around the treeline. He realized he hadn’t done such a good job masking his amusement when those eyes narrowed and his new friend mumbled something under his breath.

“There’s no way this is coming off.” He stood and faced the smaller man. “Grab your bags, you’re riding with me.”

“Funny, I don’t recall asking for a ride from a chest-beating, flannel-wearing backwoods neanderthal.”

“Good thing I didn’t make it a request.” Roc ground his teeth. Why was this man making such a big deal out of accepting a little help? “Get your stuff now or it stays here and I make you get into that truck.”
